Below is an application guide for the craft plasters we stock. Note that there is normally some latitude and overlap in the optimum plaster for a particular project, and the density and absorption characteristics of a plaster can often be adjusted with a small change to the water:powder ratio.

Artists' Plaster
|
General casting work; light plasters for a wide range of artistic, decorative and commercial applications. Rapid drying in slip-moulds.

Models, decorative items, mouldings, impressions, etc. Large items may need a framework or armature, etc.

Dental Plaster

General casting, life-casts and any situation where faster setting is required.

A slightly stronger plaster than either of the above products, and with a much shorter set time.

These plasters are manufactured as a fine, soft, white powder .Mixinga wide tolerance for Artists' grade (typically 1:2-2.5 water:powder by weight). Although fluidity is very similar... a ratio of approximately 1:3 As with all gypsums, traditional plaster-of-paris will eventually deteriorate in water... permanent immersion.

FINE CASTING - FINE CASTING PLUS
Mixing Ratio: 100/70
A basic casting plaster. slight pink or grey shading. Of medium hardness; it can be easily carved and turned. May be used for simple ceramic moulds. Vicat setting time: 12-30 minutes.
HERCULITE 2
Mixing Ratio: 100/42
A hard white plaster for use where colour, high strength and surface durability are required. Vicat setting time: 6-25 minutes.
CRYSTACAL R
Mixing Ratio: 100/35
A hard white plaster for use where high strength and surface hardness are important. Longer working than Herculite No.2 with a lower expansion or setting. Vicat setting time: 10-25 minutes.
CRYSTACAST
Mixing Ratio: 100/28
An extra hard plaster for use where a fluid mix is required with great strength and surface hardness. Vicat setting time: 12-25 minutes.

HERCULITE STONE
Mixing Ratio: 100/33
Longer working than both Herculite 2 and Crystacal R with high set strength and relatively low expansion. Off-white in colour. Vicat setting time: 20-50 minutes.

30 Minute Casting Plaster - An economical general purpose industrial plaster suitable where expansion control, hardness, and strength are not essential. Working properties are similar to Hydrocal-White.
"waterproof plaster of paris" Hydrocal-White - gypsum cement which has a gradual setting time and long period of plasticity and is useful for solid and hollow castings of figurines and lamp bases. Especially suitable for thin sections, it has a high green strength and can be carved and built up. High expansion.
"Waterproofing casting plaster" Hydrocal-FGR95 - add fibre for strong, resilient products. will adapt to deep patterns. Its expansion and strength are affected by the fibre used.
